LIONS 60 REDCAR 30

LEICESTER made it five home league wins on the spin with a stunning 60-30 victory over Redcar on Saturday.

The Watling JCB Lions have been in breathtaking form around the Paul Chapman & Sons Arena in the opening weeks of the campaign.

And they were in ruthless mode once again as they reached the 60-point mark for the fourth time in their six home fixtures in all competitions so far.

Having already come through two stern tests against highly fancied sides Poole and Glasgow in recent weeks, the confidence in the Lions’ camp was high.

And that will have only been boosted further with another dominant display in front of the home supporters.

Leicester won 14 of the 15 races against the Teessiders and registered 12 heat advantages.

Captain Kyle Howarth returned from illness in sublime style with a full 15-point maximum while No.1 Nick Morris also enjoyed a four ride unbeaten night - and set a new track record of 59.81 in the opener.

Richie Worrall dropped just one point to an opponent while Joe Thompson picked up paid double figures from reserve.

Connor Mountain and Dan Thompson both won a heat apiece while reserve guest Ben Morley managed two third places.

The result moves the Lions onto 16 points at the top of the Championship table - and boss Stewart Dickson has praised his riders for making light work of the Bears.

“Redcar are a very good side and after tough meetings against Poole and Glasgow we expected another one tonight,” he said.

“But the boys stepped up to the plate and we got a more comfortable win than what we expected.”

The Watling JCB Lions are back at home next Saturday (May 7, 7pm) when Oxford are the visitors - led by Leicester’s 2019 league winning captain and seven-times British Champion Scott Nicholls.

LEICESTER 60: Kyle Howarth 15, Richie Worrall 12+2, Nick Morris 12, Joe Thompson 8+2, Connor Mountain 6, Dan Thompson 5, Ben Morley 2.

REDCAR 30: Charles Wright 11, Lewi Kerr 7+1, Erik Riss 4+1, Jordan Jenkins 3, Kasper Andersen 2, Jason Edwards 2, Adam Roynon 1.
